Prestatyn High Street in the Spotlight: Why Independent Shops Are Thriving
Share
Prestatyn High Street has recently received some well-deserved attention, with a WalesOnline feature exploring why independent businesses continue to thrive in the town.
We were delighted to see Prestatyn Furniture included alongside several other established and much-loved local businesses. Since opening our showroom at 86 High Street in August 2023, we have experienced first-hand the community spirit and support described in the article.
A High Street with a Strong Independent Character
Town centres across the UK have faced considerable changes in recent years, but Prestatyn continues to offer an attractive mixture of independent businesses and familiar national retailers.
Its cafés, specialist shops, restaurants and family-run businesses give the High Street an identity of its own. Local residents support the businesses around them, while visitors from elsewhere in North Wales and further afield give the town a welcome year-round trade.
For us, one of the most encouraging things has been how readily customers have welcomed Prestatyn Furniture. Some live within walking distance of the showroom, while others visit from Rhyl, Denbigh, Abergele, Colwyn Bay and communities across the North Wales coast.
Part of a Family Business Established in 1972
Although Prestatyn Furniture opened in 2023, the family business behind it dates back to 1972. Our original Coast Road Furniture showroom has served generations of customers from Connah’s Quay, Deeside and the surrounding area.
Opening a second showroom in Prestatyn allowed us to bring the same combination of quality furniture, helpful advice and personal service to another part of North Wales.
We remain a family-run independent business, and many of the principles established over five decades ago are just as important today: choosing dependable products, offering honest advice and looking after customers before, during and after their purchase.
Why Seeing Furniture in Person Still Matters
Websites are useful for researching styles, comparing options and discovering what is available. However, furniture is often best chosen in person.
A photograph cannot tell you exactly how supportive a sofa feels, whether a recliner suits your height or how comfortable a particular mattress will be. Colours, fabrics, materials and proportions can also look quite different when viewed in a showroom.
Visiting an independent furniture shop gives you the opportunity to sit on a sofa or armchair, try different mattresses and properly examine the construction and finish of a piece of furniture. It also means that you can ask questions and receive advice from people who know the products.
Our website provides a useful introduction to our ranges, but our Prestatyn showroom is where customers can take their time, compare different options and find the furniture that genuinely suits them.
Carefully Chosen, British-Made Furniture
The WalesOnline article also highlighted our commitment to British-made furniture. The great majority of the products we sell are manufactured in Britain, including sofas, chairs, beds, mattresses and assembled bedroom furniture.
British manufacturing is important to us because it allows us to offer furniture from established suppliers with a strong reputation for comfort, construction and aftersales support. It also helps sustain manufacturing jobs and specialist skills throughout the country.
Rather than trying to stock everything, we concentrate on finding the right products for our customers. Our showroom includes British-made sofas and suites, divan beds, mattresses, assembled bedroom furniture, dining furniture and riser recliner chairs.
The Value of Shopping Locally
Shopping locally is not only about where a product is purchased. It is also about the service and reassurance that come with it.
Our team can explain the differences between products, help with measurements and make sure that customers understand their options. We also provide free local delivery and furniture setup, including assembly where required, so customers are not left struggling with heavy furniture or complicated instructions.
These are the sorts of practical details that can make a substantial difference, particularly when purchasing a sofa, bed, wardrobe or mobility chair.
Independent businesses are also directly connected to the communities they serve. We see many customers more than once, whether they return for another room, recommend us to relatives or simply call in to see what is new.
